Much to Learn at the Heritage Craft Center of the Eastern Panhandle. The Heritage Craft Center of the Eastern Panhandle, located in Martinsburg, West Virginia, has been around for more than a decade. They are a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting heritage crafts. To do this, they offer classes to both adults and children, teaching them a variety of different crafts.
No matter when you are in the area, you will find wonderful classes to attend, classes that the whole family will love. Classes held by the Heritage Craft Center of the Eastern Panhandle are located in the basement of the Crim de la Crim antiques and collectibles shop.
The following are some of the popular and upcoming classes that people can take from the center.
Decorative Tin Punch
You can choose from among several designs and make a traditional tin punch plaque. In order to participate, you need to bring your own awl, hammer, gloves and other tools.
Wheel Thrown Pottery
You can learn the basics of the pottery wheel as well as how to create a number of different items. You also learn how to clean and maintain the wheel.
Embossing
You can learn all the basics of embossing on metal and create your own piece to take home. Everything you need is provided in the classroom.
Pumpkin Carving
Every October the Heritage Craft Center of the Eastern Panhandle teaches people how to go beyond the traditional pumpkin carvings and create pieces of art that are truly memorable.
Other classes that people can take include basketry, crocheting, knitting, jewelry making, woodcarving and more. Everyone in the family will be able to find classes that they will love, and they can help keep alive the old traditions of West Virginia.
The Heritage Craft Center of the Eastern Panhandle also holds demonstrations at many of the different festivals held in and around the town of Martinsburg. Some of the festivals where you can find them are the West Virginia Wine and Arts Festival, the Pickin’ in the Panhandle Barbecue and Bluegrass Festival, Berkeley County Rail Days, Berkeley County Youth Fair, Main Street Martinsburg’s First Saturday Street Fairs, and the Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival.
Each of the above festivals is fun and interesting, and all are well worth a visit if you are in the area.
